Institute: How did your career in photography begin?
Djinane: After graduating from Parsons School of Art & Design I moved back to Kuwait & got my first job as a Creative Director & Photographer for a Local Fragrance House called The Fragrance Kitchen by Sheikh Majed Al Sabah.
Institute: Who did you aspire to growing up?
Djinane: Let say I aspired to qualities in different people rather than one whole individual.
Institute: What are you currently working on?
Djinane: A lookbook for a young Kuwaiti Jewellery designer, & a cinematography series for the same makeup artist I collaborated with on this editorial.
Institute: How was 2015 for you?
Djinane: It was fruitful. Filled with awards, exhibitions, publications & amazing projects!
Institute: Do you have an all time favourite image?
Djinane: No, I don’t have favorites.
Institute: What is your creative process?
Djinane: I’m always reading, researching & collecting inspiration images on a daily basis. So when I have a project, my creative ideas bursts from my preconscious knowledge & I take it from there linking words & their symbolism to build my concepts.
Institute: What has been your proudest moment to date?
Djinane: Exhibiting in 2013 at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris for “SyriArt” & having the prestigious maison Pierre Bergé & Associés auction my photograph. All the proceeds went into helping Syrian refugees.
Institute: What career path would you of taken if not photography?
Djinane: My life path led me slowly to photography, I did not choose it. I wanted to become a speech pathologist when I was in high school but my grades were not high enough. In the future, I would love to get a psychology degree & merge my artistic talent with my love for helping people & become an Art Therapist.
Institute: What do you think of taking photos with your phone?
Djinane: One of my most sold photographs was shot on my Iphone & can only printed up to 30cm in height! I’m not into technology, the gadgets I use to obtain the final image doesn’t matter to me as long as their pixels correspond to the final usage needs.
Institute: What does 2016 hold for you?
Djinane: Hopefully opening my own photography studio here in Kuwait!!!
